Hall of Game 2013

February means Black History, Valentine's Day, and of course, Hall of Game.
This marks year 3 of this interesting diversion for Cartoon Network.
It's always crazy putting this show together.
This year was no different.

Changing Times

An interesting piece of perspective.
This guy is a little dramatic, but I think what he is saying is generally true in the production world.

Social Media

I had an interesting thing happen a couple weeks ago.
I have, for a long time now, used Vimeo as my repository for online video.
It's convenient, it looks pretty good, and hey...it's free.

Mostly I use it to source my demo material for posting on this blog.
In most cases, videos that I posts get some where in the double digits in play count.

So you can imagine my surprise when, after I posted an innocuous montage I cut for Cartoon Network's UpFront presentation this year, the good people at Vimeo selected it as a weekly pick for "What to Watch."

It was a 5 minute compilation of the last 20 years of the network in celebration of this year's anniversary.  Kind of fun, great for a meeting, but not really intended for mass consumption.

With in days, the play count had passed 100,000.  I was getting comments from total strangers.  And now I have "followers" whatever that means.

Kind of surreal, and a personal lesson in how quickly these days one can come to the attention of a lot of people in a short amount of time.

It was also an interesting insight into how some people receive content.  Some of the comments were quite specific to idea that I should have made the video specifically for them.  "Why didn't you include MY favorite show?"  "You put in this, and not that?"  As if I had come up short because they were not pleased with the cut.  Even though the reel wasn't even intended for them, and they had no knowledge of the purpose of the video.  I'm not really sure what to make of that.  It is interesting though.

Total Drama Revenge of the Island

It ain't over until it's over, and even then it's not over...

Life in the broadcast lane.

I cut these promos with writer / producer Clint Carruth.
We hustled to get them out the door and on the air on Friday night.

Come Monday, it was back to the drawing board.
By the end of day Monday this is what it looked like.

Which do you like better?
